Learners at Nkhokwe Primary School in Sonda, Mzuzu, were filled with excitement following a generous donation of books by Total Community Transformers (TCT), with funding from International Project Aid (IPA).
The donation significantly improved the book-to-student ratio at the school, reducing it from 1:6 to the recommended 1:1. This milestone ensures that every student now has access to their own textbook, creating a more conducive learning environment.
Emelina Mwakaponga, a 12-year-old learner, expressed gratitude on behalf of the school, highlighting how the availability of books will particularly benefit girls. “Most of the girls will now be comfortable to learn and continue with school,” she said.
Head teacher Martha Nyirenda emphasized the importance of the donation, assuring the community that the books will be well taken care of. “We will cherish this gift and ensure it helps groom many students in the future,” she stated.
The initiative by TCT and International Project Aid is seen as a critical step toward improving education standards in the area, inspiring hope for better academic performance and higher school retention rates.
